I recently upgraded the RAM in my computer. It contained two cards in slots 1 and 3 (Or 2 and 4 depending from which side you count). This left me with two slots to add more RAM. One slot was between the two occupied ones and one on the end. I put a new 8 g card in the end or open slot as it was easier to do than putting it between the two cards that were already in there. Computer was been acting weird lately and I wonder if the new card should have gone in between the two cards that came with the computer.
The computer is a HP Pavilion 500-054 Desktop
The Memory card was recommended by Crucial
Black jack fast version. However realistically filling up all 4 slots is likely to lower the maximum speed you can get. 8 GBx2 puts you at 16 GB right away and you can get a very fast kit if you want that. It also leaves you open to upgrading to 32 GB in the future with another 8x2. Which is useful because if you need 16 GB of RAM it won't matter if it's a bit slower. Gold strike casino chips.

- Install the new RAM by sliding it into place and pressing firmly. If installing four modules, the position doesn't matter, but if you install just two, they need to be either in positions 1 and 3.
- Hey all, As in the thread title, if i was too install 2 x 2gb sticks in the 2 and 4 slots on my motherboard would the results be the same as if i used 1 and 3. Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6. Memory slots 1 and 3 are Yellow and 2 and 4 are red. In the manual it says it can handle.
- How Much RAM Do You Need? Generally speaking, more RAM is better. That said, the law of diminishing returns applies. Moving from 4 GB to 8 GB of RAM is likely to make a huge difference. Moving from 8 GB to 16 GB still shows some good gains in performance, but not as much. And moving beyond 16 GB is going to be a smaller boost still.
